Our Spring 2 Topic focused on Africa. We located the continent Africa using a range of maps, and then focused on the country Kenya. We learnt biomes, specifically the Savannah, the largest grassland in the world. We found out what the vegetation is like and what animals live there. We also learnt about tea plantations and where the best location for one would be and why tea plantations are both good and bad for Kenya.
In English, we read The Butterfly Lion. We looked at the main characters, acted out one of the chapters, mapped out the different characters changing thoughts and feelings through the chapter and why they changed. We wrote our own chapter from the Lion’s point of view.
In DT and Science, we learnt about healthy foods and why we need different types of food. Using our knowledge, we designed and created our own healthy meal inspired by foods that grow in Africa.
