At Catforth we provide a broad and balanced PSHE curriculum that will support the lifelong learning about spiritual, moral, physical, social, cultural and emotional development of pupils. We strive to promote positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience and achievement whilst providing a curriculum which covers all that is needed to meet the new relationships Education and Health Education statutory requirements.

Our curriculum offers opportunities to enable our pupils to grow into independent, active and responsible members of our school and the wider community.

We use the SCARF programme (SCARF: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) to ensure we provide a whole-school approach that is cohesive throughout every class.

Through our curriculum, school environment, school ethos and the strength of our relationships, we strive to promote pupils’ self-esteem, emotional and physical well-being and help them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships.  We want our pupils to know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle and to develop a growing awareness of a broad range of issues.

At Catforth Primary School, Relationship Education is taught within a broader  PSHE curriculum. It aims to gradually and appropriately prepare children for adult life, and ensuring the development of the personal skills needed by pupils if they are to establish and maintain relationships both now and in their future. Parents of our pupils were consulted to ensure our PSHE and RE curriculum best suited the children at our school. The curriculum is designed to ensure that young people can make responsible and informed decisions about their own health and wellbeing.

PSHE lessons are varied, fun and meaningful and encourage each child to express their views through discussions, drama and activities which reflect their understanding. At Catforth Primary we also plan events which involve our school community and contribute to the wider world through fundraising.
